Screen Capture Setup For Educators – Course Introduction
In this course, I’m going to walk you through a step by step guide for setting up your mac to record screencast or slideshow presentations.

So, why is proper setup so important?
First of all, the steps that I’ll show you in this course are universal for ALL screencasting software on your Mac.
So if you’re using, or planning to use a program like Camtasia, Screenflow, QuickTime Player, Screencast-o-Matic, or ANY other screen capturing software, then you’re in the right place; because this course is specifically designed to ensure your success.
And by the end of these lessons, you’ll be able to effortlessly:
- Optimize your lesson creation process (which, as a teacher… I know it’s important to you)
- Capture super-crisp HD video
- The highest audio quality possible.

What will I learn in this course?
- So, we’ll begin with your desktop setup first. This simple step is mostly missed out by most of the instructors, and it shows in the amount of distractions on their screen. Believe it or not, this can actually become a self-fulfilling security threat. So, we’ll make sure to cover that first.
- Then, we’ll dive into Microphone setup to make sure you’re capturing your voice in the best possible method, so it sounds clear, concise, and full-toned; just like mine is right now.
- Finally, we’ll talk about the recording workflow such as “live style recording with multiple takes” vs “Recording audio and video separately and then syncing them together later on.”
“Now, you might be thinking “Jon, this sounds like a lot of new technology that I may or may not be ready for.”
Well, if you’re feeling that way right now… if you’re feeling overwhelmed, that’s a good sign.
Because it means that you’re now in the same mindset that your students will be in when you finally publish and launch your own video courses.
Surely, your content might be about MATH, SCIENCE, or HISTORY but as a student, this mindset that you’re in right now is exactly the same!
So do me a favor and embrace this feeling of uncertainty, insecurity, or curiosity. Because remember, this is the exact same feeling that your students would go through every single day.
You might emphasize with that emotion in the classroom just fine because you can see your students’ reciprocity, body language, and tonality.
But when you record your video lessons, emotion can easily get lost in translation.
Believe it or not, most instructors forget that one very simple truth. They forget to add emotion or express original tonality with their recordings and the result is usually poorly crafted video lessons which causes students engagement to tank; and their learning ultimately comes to a halt.
Here in my opinion, that’s why the flipped classroom model gets such a bad wrap.
All that to say; that if you really want your video lessons to be effective and engaging for your students, You MUST understand the fundamentals in this course. And the best way to do this is by becoming an excellent student yourself.
